Gilbert Plains Golf and Country Club
Opened in 1967 as part of the Centennial Park, the Gilbert Plains
Golf and Country Club featured nine holes artfully arranged along
the winding Valley River.
In 1997, another nine holes were added to the course. Now offering
18 holes, the popular course is known for its rolling landscape,
generous bunkers, many stealthy hazards and huge greens. The club
is host to a variety of golf tournaments throughout the season.
After the game, golfers can relax at the Clubhouse with its licensed
restaurant.
Centennial Park
Located
in a valley on the west side of town, the Gilbert Plains Centennial
Park is home to the golf course, as well as a picnic area, campgrounds,
wading pool and playground. The park is situated on the gentle
Valley River, suitable for swimming, rafting and canoeing.
In the winter, the park is popular with tobogganners and cross-country
skiers.
Gilbert Plains is also near two very large park areas, the Riding
Mountain National Park and the Duck Mountain Provincial Park.
Both parks are within a 30 minute drive, and offer further opportunities
for camping, hiking, skiing, boating and fishing.
Gilbert Plains-Grandview Agricultural Society Annual
Fair & Rodeo
Every July, the community comes together at the Gilbert Plains-Grandview
Agricultural Society Annual Fair & Rodeo, a three-day event
with a parade, midway, light horse show, agricultural exhibitions
and plenty of social gatherings. This weekend is frequently selected
for family reunions and homecoming events.
The Rodeo is dual approved by the Manitoba Rodeo Cowboys Association
and the Canadian Cowboy Association. It features saddlebronc,
bare back, calf roping, team roping, barrel racing, steer wrestling
and and bull riding. The behind-the-chute facilities are superior
and there is excellent grandstand viewing. For more information
about the rodeo, contact (204) 546-3450.
